Retirement

Posted Date: 02/25/26 (07:00 AM)

Dear Statham Elementary School Parents and Guardians,

It is with a grateful heart that I share my decision to retire as principal of Statham Elementary School.

Serving this school community over the past two years has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. From the very beginning, you welcomed me warmly and allowed me not only to serve your children, but also to truly experience and appreciate the Georgia way of life. Your kindness, encouragement, and trust have meant more to me than words can fully express.

As many of you know, I recently faced a significant health crisis. While I am thankful for the progress I’ve made, I continue to experience residual health issues that require my attention. In addition, my husband has been diagnosed with a treatable form of cancer. During this season, it is important for me to focus on my health and to support him fully as he undergoes treatment.

I cannot thank you enough for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support you have shown my family and me. You have loved us well. Your compassion and grace during this time are beyond appreciated and will always hold a special place in my heart.

Although I am stepping away, I do so with complete confidence in the future of our school. Statham Elementary will continue to see strong academic growth because of our outstanding, dedicated educators and the continued leadership and support of the BCSS Leadership Team. Our students are in excellent hands.

Thank you for trusting me with your children. Thank you for your partnership. And most of all, thank you for your kindness and unwavering support.

Statham Elementary School will forever be part of my story.

With Sincere Gratitude and the Fullest Heart,

Mrs. Sue McHann, Principal
